Stephen was a man who looked up“steadfastly into heaven”; he got rewarded with a vision of the glory of God; a vision of an open heaven, and of “Jesus standing on the right hand of God” (Acts 7:55).  It is no surprise that a man who so “steadfastly” fixed his gaze on heaven, in spite of the distracting murderous mob before which he stood summoned and the hail of their lethal stones, should “see the heavens opened.” Those who saw him bore witness that his face was a reflection of the glorious direction that was his steadfast captivation. The open heaven streamed on him with a glory that lighted up his countenance as if his face were “the face of an angel” (Acts 6:15).

Men will always read on your face the reflections of your captivating directions. Heaven will write glory on the faces of those who steadfastly “look up” thither. God responds with an open heaven to those who steadfastly look up. God rewards glory to those who diligently knock on Heaven’s gate with their steadfast gaze.

In this generation of many distracting captivations, may your gaze stay focused on Heaven, until God has signed the signature of His glory on your face so clearly that men will see your transformation into an angel. Amen.
